Keep the three descriptions distinct
| Field | What to define |
|---|---|
| Copper thickness | Location, minimum/average basis, units and inspection method |
| Copper fraction | Volume or mass basis and permitted variation |
| Conductivity | %IACS class or resistance requirement with test temperature |
Specify the geometry and inspection
Include finished wire diameter and tolerance, copper-layer requirements, concentricity or variation where relevant, and interface and surface acceptance criteria.
A conductivity number alone does not establish the minimum layer at every point. Review the applicable measurements and acceptance limits for the finished product.
- Diameter and specimen identity
- Layer measurement location and method
- Minimum values, variation and reporting basis
- Interface, surface and any additional coating
Validate the actual application separately
Electrical resistance, operating frequency, environment, joining and complete assembly requirements may all matter. A copper-layer measurement alone does not approve the finished cable or connection.
Request current data and a trial plan for the selected conductor. Avoid converting a catalogue grade number into a copper percentage or guaranteed layer thickness.
This guide supports initial specification review. Confirm current product data, availability and application acceptance for the exact conductor under consideration.
