TECHNICAL GUIDE / TRACER-SYSTEM PLANNING

Installing pipe tracer wire — plan the approved system

Updated 4 October 2026 · General Clad technical resources

Tracer-wire installation follows the approved project design, operator requirements and instructions for the actual wire, connector and locating equipment. There is no universal splice procedure or access-point spacing for every installation.

Confirm the design before installation

  • Pipe/service route and installation method
  • Core material, wire size and insulation specification
  • Approved routing and accessible termination plan
  • Connector, tool and environmental protection requirements

Use the instructions for the actual components

Connection preparation, stripping, joining, sealing and tool settings depend on the selected components. Use their current instructions and the operator's accepted connection plan.

Do not apply a generic photo sequence or one fixed test-well spacing to every system. Review installation damage, pull limits, exposure and accessible connection points for the project.

Verify the installed route

Agree on continuity and locating checks, records, reference points and responsibility for rectifying faults. Inspection should cover the installed arrangement, not just a reel of wire.

Request current product data and review the finished insulated wire's requirements separately from the bare core's conductivity grade.

Take the next step with a defined requirement.

Share the application, drawing, electrical and mechanical targets, and required documentation.
