A route for the locating system
The intended task is locating the utility route. State the utility type, installation conditions and operator requirements so the conductor and connection design can be evaluated for that task.
Do not treat a tracer wire as a substitute for a power conductor or protective earthing conductor. Those functions have their own design and acceptance requirements.
Specify more than the metal core
- Conductor material, dimensions, resistance and mechanical requirements.
- Required insulation material, thickness and environmental properties.
- Connections, access points and continuity requirements.
- Identification requirements, including the project’s color convention.
- Installed-system verification and records required by the operator.
Review a CCS-based option
Where CCS is under consideration, specify the core wire and the finished insulated construction separately. Confirm the scope of supply before comparing quotations.
A conductivity grade alone does not prove locating performance. Use an acceptance plan that covers the actual wire, connections and locating system.
What to include in a technical inquiry
Share whether you need bare core wire or a finished insulated product, the installation method, target dimensions, operator specification and quantity. Request current evidence that matches the construction under review.
This guide supports initial specification review. Confirm current product data, availability and application acceptance for the exact conductor under consideration.
