Tracer wire
Tracer wire — specify the finished insulated system
The metal core is one part of a complete tracer-wire system for locating buried nonmetallic services.
Core and insulation are separate choices
General Clad's historical tracer-wire page describes copper and CCS core options. Confirm the current product, actual wire dimensions, insulation material and thickness, and required electrical and mechanical properties for your installation.
Do not infer a finished insulated-wire voltage rating, directional-drilling suitability or certification from the conductivity class of its bare CCS core.
- Copper or CCS core, gauge and material condition
- Insulation material, thickness, color and inspection criteria
- Resistance, pull strength and installation requirements
Specify the complete locating arrangement
Share the pipe or service type, installation method, locating equipment, accessible termination points and connection details. Agree on continuity and locating-system checks for the installed route.
Connections, insulation damage, routing and access arrangements can affect system performance. Use the applicable project requirements and equipment guidance rather than assuming a wire size alone establishes suitability.
- Connection and splice protection
- Routing, termination access and environmental exposure
- Commissioning checks and project acceptance records
