Why protective grounding needs a complete design

Original publication: · Reviewed:

Protective grounding must be coordinated with bonding and the required protective devices. Selecting CCS, copper or another conductor does not replace installation design, inspection or the applicable electrical requirements.

Review the application

A copper-equivalent label alone does not confirm fault-current performance, connection compatibility or suitability for the installation. The conductor and connections need a project-specific review.

Information to provide

Confirm the proposed construction

Agree on the conductor drawing, electrical duty and acceptance basis.

Review sample dimensions, electrical and mechanical data, and connection compatibility.

Complete the project-required system evaluation before accepting a material change.
