Fine wire

Bimetallic fine wire — dimensions and process requirements

At small dimensions, material selection and processing need to be considered together.

Define the finished wire

General Clad's published fine-wire catalogue includes a 40% IACS CCS item with a 0.06 mm designation. This is a catalogue reference, not confirmation of every size, temper or packaging combination.

Specify the finished diameter and tolerance, material condition, required tensile strength and elongation, surface finish and continuity. Keep conductivity separate from copper fraction and copper-layer thickness.

  • Diameter, tolerance and measurement method
  • Electrical resistance and test temperature
  • Material condition, elongation and surface requirements

Review downstream handling

Drawing, winding, stranding and termination can place different demands on a fine wire. Share the process, operating tension and any known surface or handling constraints.

Confirm spool dimensions, winding quality, length, packaging and inspection records for the trial. Agree on acceptance criteria before judging the product solely by its nominal diameter.

  • Spool and winding arrangement
  • Trial quantity and downstream production conditions
  • Inspection, sample traceability and acceptance method

Review the current specification
