Comparing CCS and copper in a cable

Original publication: · Reviewed:

A cable comparison needs a stated frequency range, conductor geometry and acceptance criterion. A skin-effect argument alone does not prove lower loss or equivalent performance; compare measured results for the finished cable.

Review the application

A conductivity class alone does not establish attenuation, impedance, return loss or suitability for every frequency range. Where the cable also carries DC power, state that requirement separately.

Information to provide

Confirm the proposed construction

Agree on the center-conductor specification and the intended cable construction.

Evaluate trial wire through the actual processing and termination sequence.

Validate the finished cable against its specified electrical and mechanical requirements.
